How to help those who need help before the damage is done to a fetus.
More and more these types of stories are rolling into the news media. This phenomenon is not new. Mothers who abused drugs often had inflicted their addiction on their newborn and their children along with some fathers.
What is new is the fact that our penal system had decided to incarcerate these mothers for their drug use and it’s affect on their born or unborn children. When you lock up a drug user, what you get is a locked up drug user who may or may not go through traumatic withdrawals recovery. These mothers have become a victim of a system that had allowed drugs to flourish everywhere. The perpetrators, drugs providers, are the ones that deserved to be incarcerated. This mother, Becker, is being held in jail in lieu of $5 million bail. “If you do the crime, you should do the time,” should be for the perpetrators not the victims that fall prey to their drugs.
Earlier I had written about a mother being threatened to be lockup because while taking the drugs the fetus was exposed to the drugs and once born is an addict that must be dealt with to detox from drugs.
