“The Longest Stroke-Dementia Road To Somewhere Journal — Home Sweet Home!!”
At home now What?! It has been a little over three weeks since Mother and I had left California for her home, only to be there four days then onto another sibling’s home. Due to the effects of the stroke and no one to care for on the level required, my sister decided to take her home with her. Before my sister’s arrival, mother questioned my leaving and being home alone. I reminded her that she wanted to come home and was welcomed to stay with us but demanded morning, noon and night to go home so we made it happen. Of course, due to the dementia and now the after effects of the stroke, she didn’t remember any of her ranting to go home. Nevertheless, her reality is her reality and we all get that and have to give her life’s reality to protect her from herself in a lot of ways being 92 and widow. As independent as she is and as feisty as she is, do not negate the fact that she is an elderly lady even though she thinks she is younger. She moves quicker than a twenty year old, analytical skills that would make a scientist scratch his head, such wisdom that doctors are confounded, possesses such wit that any comedian could appreciate and lastly but not least is a woman of God and prayer warrior. Proudly, that’s my mama!! She does give us a run for our money and she is a delight to be around when you want to have some fun. Having said all that, you…
