December 26, 2018 Wednesday “A Bargain Saved the Day”
No gym today, but awoke early to get some work done before Mother awoke. Around 5AM while I worked on my computer and watched Mother on the baby monitor, she awoke and I advised her to go back to bed because it was still dark. She was up and down for at least fifteen times in bed, asking if she could get up or saying she wanted to go home. I knew at that moment it may be one of those nonstop I want to go home days. What you expect, you get. So I immediately decided to change my thinking that this would be a good day and that I am going to make it so. With this thought and much work accomplished thus far, I felt ready to face the bad and make it the good of the day.
Exited my office to assist Mother in getting dressed, breakfast and onto our daily therapeutic routine. Soon afterwards, off to run errands, moments to connect with the outside world. This would break up the monotony of overdosing on mother’s request to go home. Some days I could take it while other days were intolerable. I was determined to make this a good day. the choice truly is mine. Must remind myself that Mother is not doing anything on purpose and that her actions are a byproduct of dementia and the stroke. All was going well until I tried to get authorization to change Mother’s primary physician.
