December 17, 2018 Monday “Physical Therapist 1st Visit-From Tiger to Lamb”
Everyday since Mother’s stroke, our routine pretty much began the same. The ritual for me before she awoke and the ritual for her after she awoke were usually the same, with little divergence. Knowing that dementia people like routine and sameness, I provided this as much as humanly possible. This is the reason with people with dementia thrive better in their familiar territory. Unfamiliarity brings on confusion and frustration in their mind.
Today she resisted our physical therapy session for her hand, arm and speech. Depending on the amount of her resistance, I’d omit for the day. This day she was adamant about not doing it so I allowed her to skip it. One day without would not cause any serious damages. Besides even dementia knows what it clearly wants or not want sometimes.
Prior to this day, I’d received an email from The Simi Valley Business Toastmasters Group which I am President of that they may have to go black for there are not enough participation. I had not been attending since Mother’s stroke and considered the possibility of making the last meeting of the year but decline because I thought it would be too cumbersome for Mother.
