The Longest Stroke-Dementia Road To Somewhere Journal

December 27, 2018 Thursday — “ The Great Surprise Visitor, Ever!”

A new day for recovery. Healing was in the house more prevalent than any other times. I suppose it’s an accumulation of efforts with time. Today was a very good day. All was very peaceful and calm from the moment Mother awoke until the time she went to bed.

It’s was like, I said good night to one Mother and awoke with an entirely different Mother much more kin to the one i had before the stroke. She smiled and joke a bit more making the morning less stressful for both of us.

Yes, she still ask to go home but without the desperation as before. I felt like she knew who I was and that I was doing the best I could for her and that she could trust my efforts. Also, she didn’t sit clutching her handbag and sitting on the edge of the stool like she wanted to run out of the door. She came and sat on the sofa right next to me. We watched television together and ate snacks together. This was all so pleasant. This was quite lovely and I had hoped would remain. With dementia and stroke, you couldn’t be sure from day to day what you had to entertained. I gathered some photos of the family and Mother’s siblings and mother. Mother thought her mother was her. Truly, they do look a lot alike. She seem to recognize her siblings but couldn’t say their…
