The Longest Stroke-Dementia Road To Somewhere Journal

December 13, 2018 Thursday — Hooray For ME Time !!!

Returned from the gym at 4:30 AM after about an hour mini workout, worked on the computer, Mother still sleeping as I watched her on the baby monitor from upstairs. Great moment and time for me. Hadn’t worked up stairs in my office since Mother returned from the rehab center for fear that she’d do something to harm herself like getting out of bed, etc. Usually, I worked in the den right next to her room. As my husband, prepared for work, she slept through his departure. Normally, she is a light sleeper. Thankful for me time and got a lot accomplished.

Mother awoke at 7:00 AM and I encouraged her to rest a bit more and she did. Guess all that walking she did the night before paid off for her body and sleeping. About 7:30 AM, she sat up in the bed as I entered her room to begin her daily morning routine. Everyday she gets better at her occupational therapy. While getting dressed, she is up and down putting on her clothes as I stand nearby just in case she loses her balance, so far so good! The doctor recommended lots of up and down to prevent blot clots.

Today began more special than the others as I videotaped her walking unassisted to the kitchen. She accomplished this task without any mishap. It was then that I knew she was on the right road to…
