The Longest Stroke-Dementia Road To Somewhere Journal
January 23, 2019 — Wednesday “Hungry to go Home, Hungry to take Home!
Mother is and will always be my Valentine!! She has a heart of God and everyone loves her!! Dementia and the stroke makes her behavior different but underneath is the God-fearing lady I know and adore!!
As I got closer to our departure date to take Mother home, not sure who was more anxious her or me. It had been a long stretch for the both of us. The stretch had just been different, me taking care of her every need and her talking consistently about going home to an empty house and my brother and his wife who lives near who had done some pretty shady things pertaining to her finances. Mother had no clue what had happened to her finances. This is like running back into the lions mouth clueless. Thank God there are seven of us. Having had her with me for three months, I needed a break and Mother needed a break to see her house. Due to dementia, she doesn’t recall how lonely she was in the house alone. Hoped another sibling would begin where I left off.
Today like all the days before consisted of breakfast and therapy. Today, everyone gets tired and I get that. Three quarters of the way through physical and speech therapy, she stormed out the room in defiant. I allowed her to exit without requesting her to return. I knew when she tried…
