January 1, 2019 Tuesday — “The Grandest Birthday Celebration!”
Started New Year’s day with thanksgiving and gratitude for seeing another year as I worked in my office. All was quiet as Mother and Ole slept in. Mother awoke first, so I made her breakfast and Ole slept in really, really late, so I made him a separate breakfast. When he woke up, Mother and I sang happy birthday to him. Wanted to make a special breakfast for him but didn’t have all the items I wanted, I even forgot to purchase him a birthday card. Being so consumed with Mother, I tend to forget smaller details. His younger sister and her family called and wished him happy birthday early that morning and his older sister called later in the day with his mom and they sang happy birthday to him, also.
We enjoyed the Rose Parade together. It lasted for hours. It was fun sharing this with Mother for the first time. The floats, the bands and all the other entertainers were amazingly astounding and mesmerizing. Once the parade was over, we headed out to checkout the sites around our local area.
Stores were like ghost towns and for a moment, I forgot it was New Years Day. The cashiers looked like they didn’t know what to do with themselves compared to the Christmas rush madness. Had to return an item to Macy’s and thought we’d walk around the mall afterwards. The mall was empty and cold. We made a mad dash back to the car.
