The Dr. said Mother had Sundown Syndrome, My Spirit said “Not So”
“Each patient carries his own doctor inside him. We are at our best when we give the doctor who resides within a chance to go to work.”
Sometimes you need to be your best doctor with lots of common sense and knowledge about your ailment. Doctors are people too, and don’t know everything, however they may know specific about certain things but definitely not about everything.
My 92 years old mother who has mild dementia and was visiting with me on vacation, had a mini stroke and our lives changed forever. The moment I realized she was having a mini stroke right before my face, I rushed her to the hospital and she was admitted shortly thereafter without hesitation.
A week in the hospital, I saw my mother go from being super nice to a super mad woman fighting to get out of the hospital given her new limitations that she refused to acknowledge and accept. Partially, this non acceptance was due to her personality and other to dementia. Even though after the stroke, she couldn’t walk, she’d get out of the bed and fall on the floor. Thank God she had no injuries. Trying to communicate her limitations to her was useless. She refused to accept any limitations. Also, she’d snatch the IV from her arms and heart monitoring devices connected to her body, from her body.
