LAPD Software Program, PredPol to Predict Future Offenses, seriously Mr. PoPo?
Love conquers a lot of ills, especially in a civil servant job!!
Upon reading the Los Angeles Times, I was floored to see that the LAPD along with other police departments throughout the states are spending much needed resources on a software programs, PredPol, to predict future offenses based on past offenses. This struck me as bizarre. Why go looking for or inciting troubles? That’s like saying, “once a thief, always a thief”. This PredPol sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially in some targeted neighborhood.
Isn’t there enough crime that needs attention now than to go looking for it or inciting it? On a scale of 1 to 10, most ethnic groups would probably rate the police department on the low end of the scale based on their past performances in certain neighborhood. The police department has yet to deal effectively with current crimes in an appropriate manner in certain neighborhoods and now this PredPol will used inputted data to predict more in the same areas! Really? Driving while Black, is a reality. Walking while Black has become a crime in certain areas! Shopping while black, on stores radar and cameras. What happened to good old fashion caring to thwart or as a deterrent of crime. There is an oath to my knowledge when a civil…
