Dying is expensive And living Ain’t Cheap
“Always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine.”
Thanks God for some medical plans and shame on some others. Greed has taken first place over wellness and another’s life. My sister has had to purchased medicine that were astronomical and she currently find herself digging out of debts and working to maintain some decent form of lifestyle. Thank God her insurance paid for her medicine mostly with little to no co-pay. She now calls herself the million dollar lady.
Today the FDA approved a drug, Zolgensma, for a rare disease which cost $2 million dollars. This is insane. Who has this amount of money for one drug, surely not the working class. This drug is used for a rare disease that destroys a baby’s muscle control and kills nearly all of those with the most common type of the disease by two years old. While the price will vary from patient to patient, all depends on each medical coverage but no matter what this drug is still super expensive.
This medicine is a gene therapy that is designed to treat an inherited condition called spinal muscular atrophy. Once administered this drug will target a defective gene that weakens a child’s muscles to a point of inability to walk, swallow or breathe. Without this drug it appears death is eminent. Over 400 babies are affected each year. Thank God…
