Diahann Carroll — Trailblazer-Groundbreaking Actress of TV, Films and Stage — Life Lessons, Motivational, Inspirational and Personal Development
Diahann Carroll made history by becoming the first African American woman cast as a professional and not a domestic worker in the 1968’s groundbreaking sitcom, “Julia” for which she won a lead actress Tony award and went on to be the first being cast in film, tv and stage in roles not given to people of color in the past.
Another milestone, she was the first again, first black actress to star in studio films. Her breathy and deep voice established her as a recording artist and debuted on the big screen in 1954’s Oscar nominated adaptation of “Carmen Jones,” a retelling of the Bizet opera with an all-black cast with the equally beautiful Dorothy Dandridge, the multitalented and handsome Harry Belafonte and the one and only classy Ms. Pearl Bailey. In 1959, she starred in the musical, “Porgy and Bess” with Dandridge again, and now newly with Sidney Poitier and the man of many talents Sammy Davis Jr.
Additional TV credits span from “A Different World”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and sang at nightclubs and on the Broadway stage, headlined in Las Vegas and received Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe nominations.
