Day 3 Thursday Journey with Mother, Mini Stroke aftermath, Mild Dementia and I, 93 year old — Traveling return home Story
Memories of traveling thru three states with Mother was delightful. Gave us priceless time together as I engaged her on thoughts of life, past and present. Ended the day with her special treat, ice cream!
We awoke at day break in Florida at 7:30 Am to prepare to return to Mother’s home in Mississippi. Washed up, got dressed and had a light breakfast before leaving my friend’s home. While Mother ate a muffin I ensured all was packed and ready to go as I snacked on nuts. Had mother pills in my hands for her to take after breakfast. Preoccupied in my thoughts and actions, while snacking on nuts, I tossed my mother pills in my mouth and when I crunched down I realized they were not nuts but pills. I rushed over to the sink and rinsed out my mouth. I had ingested four or five pills and the taste was disconcerting. Got another set of pills and gave to mother after she finished her breakfast.
Gased up and on the road we went. As I drove, mother chatted and asked the same questions over and over and I answered The same questions over and over. One silent moment, my heart cried that Mother had dementia and my oldest sister memories was also affected. According to some science, dementia can be brought on for different reasons. With my mother, I felt taking care of my dad who had Alzheimer took it’s toll…
