July 4, 2019 California experienced a 6.4 level earthquake in the Ridgecrest area, and it was felt in Nevada, northern California and even parts of Mexico. That is quite a vast area, and the Ridgecrest area suffered the most damage. One day later, California experienced a 7.1 quake, the biggest in nearly two decades. This one was felt as far away as San Jose and Las Vegas.
Sitting at my desk in my office when everything started to shake erratically. It jolted to me and initially I thought it was the train passing through which sometimes rattles my office space briefly when passing through but this time it was different, the whole room started to shake and I knew this was no train as I yelled to my husband below that we were having an earthquake. We ran outside, that is a no no. Neither of us were really sure what to do. Sought our neighbors, there were a few outdoors and shortly thereafter all was over.
When you know better you do and perform better! Earthquake training tell all to take cover under a table as one protect their neck and head. Experts advised to get under a stable, because in many instances desks have often remained standing while all else around it had crumbled. While knowing what to do during an earthquake is just as important as knowing what to do after the quake. Warnings come for a reason. All is a wakeup call!
