Many people come and go in life but there are some everyone wish could stick around forever due to their commitment to human rights and civil rights on a level unparalleled by many. One of these enormous giants is Reverend Joseph E. Lowery who was a co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) along with Dr. Martin Luther King. He was often referred to as the dean of the civil rights movement and I guess Dr. King could be referred to as the president who gave their lives for the betterment of all people, one race. Another noteworthy institution that bears his legacy was the The Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice & Human Rights. While Dr. King was the first president of SCLC, Rev. Lowery later was president and served for 20 years.
